The Neurogenetics Institute · Since 2011
One institute, four doors into how learning works.
School, library, self-knowledge and courses beyond the classroom — each one built on the same science of learning. Choose your entrance.

Neuroscience, genetics and learning science — applied to real teaching.
The Neurogenetics Institute is a specialist institution for the science of learning. Since 2011 we have studied how memory, attention and understanding actually work — and turned that research into schools, books, assessments and courses that use it.
Everything here comes from the same place: a group of teachers who kept asking why some explanations stick and others don’t, and who kept reading the research until they had answers worth teaching with.
How the brain pays attention, stores information and retrieves it under pressure — and what that means for every lesson.
Why learners differ from their very first day — and why good teaching meets each brain where it starts.
Retrieval practice, spacing, feedback: the findings classrooms can actually use, tested on real students.
Understanding how you learn comes first.
Four research areas shape everything the Institute builds — from a Year 2 phonics lesson to an A-Level mechanics class. Each one has its own body of research at the Institute, written to be read.
How knowledge moves in and out of storage — and why retrieval beats re-reading every time.
What focus actually is, what breaks it, and how lessons can be built around its limits.
Planning, starting, sticking with it — the quiet skills behind every grade.
The brain rewires with practice at any age. Plasticity is the reason teaching works.
Start with your Brain Profile.
Answer honestly for about five minutes and the profile maps you to one of ten Learning Archetypes — a clear breakdown of how you learn best, what breaks your focus, and which study methods genuinely fit you. Your result is yours for good.
Take the free Brain Profile →The same profile shapes our teaching.
A learner who knows how they focus can protect their attention. A teacher who knows how a class stores information can sequence a lesson around it. The Brain Profile is where the Institute’s science becomes personal — and it is included for every enrolled Academy family.
The Neurogenetics Academy
A real school, online: live lessons with subject specialists in classes capped at eight, from KS1 to A-Level. A timetable, marked work, reports you can act on — and applications read by teachers, because places stay small on purpose.
Explore the Academy →Eight students maximum — the teacher knows every name, every gap, every win.
DBS-checked, MSc-led, subject specialists — the people who mark the work also teach the lessons.
Every lesson recorded, every piece of work returned with feedback you can use.
The Library, and our own published guides.
The Institute Library holds thousands of curated resources — guides, workbooks, cheat sheets and past-paper practice. Alongside it sits NGI Publishing: our own Neurogenetics Scholar Guides for GCSE & IGCSE, written by our teachers, with practice books and marking guides.
Enter the Library →Revision, rewired — in book form.
Five Scholar Guides — Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English — each following the same five-stage path as our teaching: Understand, Remember, Practise, Master, Exam ready. £9 each, or all five as the Grade-9 Bundle.
Courses, clubs and workshops.
Learning you can join this month: Science Club’s five-week research challenge, one-hour workshops on memory, focus, habits and sleep, and recordings for catch-up. Small groups, live, led by the Institute’s own teachers.
Explore courses →Science Club
The 5-Week Research Challenge: ask a real question, run a real investigation, present real findings. A structured introduction to authentic research — the kind of thing students talk about in interviews years later.
Explore Science Club →Read the thinking, not just the marketing.
The Institute publishes its research and its methods: five research collections on memory, attention, learning science, executive function and neural adaptability — plus the Scholar Guides, workbooks and resources that put them into practice.
Our five research collections, written to be read by parents and students, not just academics.

An interactive model of the brain and what each region does for learning.
However you learn, begin by understanding it.
